Amy Winehouse Becomes Catholic? I didn’t SeeThat One Coming…

Devoted Amy keeps the faith with jail husband abandoning her Jewish roots for Catholicism ???

Alright, alright, I admit, the UK press does not have a fantastic record of accurately reporting matters pertaining to religion.  Probably less so the gossip columns filled with the comings and goings of the glitteratti or, in Winehouse’s case, the partiratti. Further it should be noted that the wearing of Rosary beads does not a Catholic make… 

To go one more step, there is something notable about the conversions of famous persons… But there is no tangible difference – save fame and column inches – between Tony Blair and Joe Sixpack or Amy Winehouse and Annie Catowner.  One might make a case for celeb conversions having a powerful example of offering witness… That is a double-edged  sword however: Famous Catholics – prone to all the issues and indiscretions the rest of us are – also end up getting their issues and indiscretions on the front page.  So it goes.

Still. keep Amy in your prayers.  Given the news reports of a life and lifestyle that has been less than angelic at times (I can relate), this would doubtless be a blessing.
