Blessed William Vives Mercedario
Prior of the Mercedario convent in Barcelona, Blessed William Vives, despite being a peaceful man and very humble, had to deal with the energy and without improper interference because of the bishop to visit his monastery. In 1401 he had to send the priest Bartolomeo Celforés as informant in Rome, and spend large quantities of 3,000 guilders gold, to give solution to the issue. Following this the King Martin V put the community under the protection of the Crown of Aragon with his brothers and their property. Blessed William wrote the life of St. Peter Nolasco and Santa Maria de Brains, which was then included in the process of canonization of the Holy ones. After a precious death was buried in his monastery.
The Order celebrates him on January 3.
