Mary Can’t Hear Your Prayers

NAV: Prayer is only to be directed to our God, who can listen and hear my prayer…

BFHU: Could you please support this with Scripture?

NAV: If we pray to Mary at the same time at different parts of this world do you think she could hear us?… only God could hear us all at the same time anywhere, any place in this universe for our God is all present all at the same time… Can Mary or any other saint do that?…

BFHU: Not by their own power. But God could make it possible for them.

NAV: they are not God but just man a sinful man like you and me…

BFHU: True we know they are human and not divine. And yes, of course, the Saints did sin, some more than others, except Mary who was free from all sin from the first moment of her conception.

NAV: we have already a mediator between man and God that is Jesus Christ who died for us,

BFHU:
Then do you think asking friends to pray for you is wrong? If asking Mary and the Saints to pray for us makes them other mediators then anyone who prays for us is also another mediator. And yet scripture commands us to pray for one another. So, I would like to suggest that intercessory prayer is not a form of mediation that would somehow usurp the uniqueness of Christ being The One Mediator between God and men.

NAV: So our prayer or anything we will ask should and should only be directed directly to Jesus Christ our God and redeemer alone, and to no one for He has not commanded us to do so..

BFHU:
I would have to see where God has commanded us Not to ask for the intercessory prayer of the Saints in Sacred Scripturre. Actually, He has, in fact, commanded us to pray for one another. And the Saints in Heaven and on Earth and in Purgatory are all a part of the Body of Christ. And we all commune with each other through our prayers. We don’t “pray” to them as gods but as brothers and sisters in Christ.

NAV: But to Him alone we ask or pray… For our God is a jealous God He want all our prayer to be directed only to Him alone not to Mary or to any other saint or person whom He has just created…

BFHU: Scripture support, please?

NAV: Regarding, James instructing us to pray for one another the instruction is for a live person not dead …

BFHU: True, I guess the difference between Protestants and Catholics is that we don’t see our Saints as dead but alive in Christ and in Heaven. Only their bodies are dead but their souls are very much alive.

NAV: (prayers of a righteous man avails much) because it avails much and we ask it thru Jesus’ name as Jesus instructed us to ask anything in His name it shall be given… And not thru Mary’s name because she is not God and can do nothing to hear us or intercede in behalf of us…

BFHU: We only ask Mary and the Saints to pray FOR us. We don’t ask our prayers in the name of Mary or in the name of St. Francis. We ask in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. And because of the heroic virtue of Mary and the Saints, we know they are righteous and that their prayers avail much. This is why we ask for their intercession.

mary is sinful she is no better than anybody else. She was used by god and that’s it…. that doesn’t make her better than any other human she’s worth dirt like all of us.

Do you know the really sad (in its original meaning) thing about what is written above – and I genuinely mean this without any personal criticism to either contributor, is that both are committed Christians.

I have spent my life to date arguing and debating on theological issues – sometimes for fun and relaxation on websites (re Robert and Nan) more often within university walls and public debates.

Often most seriously (away from mere academic polemic) in my ordained capacity when I witness injustice…and feel compelled to speak out. It is not always easy and often frightening.

Maybe I’m being romantic in my old age but it would be much better if we took a leaf out of Cardinal Hume’s many works and, as he encourages, pray together, and realise, that together, we are much stronger bound in Christ than being separated by doctrinal issues.

A heart of a man can adore only one. when you have a relationship with marry through prayer you get far away from Jesus ..and lot of catholic dont know that.. when i became born again my faith consecrated on Jesus thats when I got closer and closer to him. it changed me. its like his moving inside me. i learned to love and serve people. i felt no more presure, free and alive. I think religion will just trap the people . cut off your relationship with marry and turn your eyes to Jesus. Then you will be free and learn to love the Lord with all your heart.. dont listen to people that tell you lies since you were born.

I am happy for you Mike that you are closer to Christ. But you are just wrong about Mary. We do only Worship ONE GOD the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We love and honor Mary the mother of God the Son. Most people are very capable of loving more than one being. A wife is still able to love her husband after she gives birth to a child or many children. I don’t know why you think human beings are so limited.

“BFHU: Not by their own power. But God could make it possible for them.”
    What scripture says so??

Why can’t you just pray to God? Why are you so obsessed with Mary and the saints? Wouldn’t you rather talk to God Himself? Nowhere in the Bible does it say pray for the dead, or try to talk to people that are dead. Did the apostles say that Mary was sinless and you should ask her things? Actually Mary is not even mentioned in any of the apostle’s letters. Only the 4 gospels mention her. And about the “saints”. EVERY CHRISTIAN IS A SAINT AND EVERY SAINT IS A CHRISTIAN.

Anon: Why can’t you just pray to God? Why are you so obsessed with Mary and the saints? Wouldn’t you rather talk to God Himself?

BFHU: We can and do. Do you ever ask a friend to pray for you or another intention? Why? What if I assumed that since you asked your friend to pray for you that you were obsessed with your friend? Why so judgemental? We practice intercessory prayer as James commended us to do. Why do you think Protestant intercessory prayer is superior to Catholic intercessory prayer? There is no scripture that prohibits us asking the souls of our brothers and sisters in Christ who ARE ALIVE in Heaven to pray for us. As Jesus said, “God is the God of the living”. And likewise there is no scripture that says we must only pray to God directly. So what is your beef?

Anon: Nowhere in the Bible does it say pray for the dead, or try to talk to people that are dead.

BFHU: And nowhere in the Bible does it say that all religious truth MUST be found in the Bible or it is wrong.

Anon: Did the apostles say that Mary was sinless and you should ask her things? Actually Mary is not even mentioned in any of the apostle’s letters. Only the 4 gospels mention her.

    BFHU:
Asking for the intercession of the Saints and the sinlessness of Mary are part of the Oral Tradition (Teaching of the Apostles). Even Luther and Calvin believed in this. We also call her Blessed according to the scripture but Protestants, despite their vociferous protestations that they take scripture literally, do not, ever. That would be too Catholic and they shun such a practice.

Anon: And about the “saints”. EVERY CHRISTIAN IS A SAINT AND EVERY SAINT IS A CHRISTIAN.

BFHU: Correct. When we speak about the SAINTS with a capital S we are not declaring them to be the ONLY saints. These heroes of the Faith are simply raised to prominence as examples for us to follow their exemplary lives. We know there are thousands of unsung SAINTS who lived their faith quietly and heroically also but are known only to the Father.

Hey BFHU,i love it when you say don’t you ask a friend to pray for you,i say yes of course i do,but one I’m face to face when i ask that friend,if i pray at night and ask in my prayer for my friend to pray for me guess what when i ask that friend the next day did you hear my prayer they will say what are you talking about, you see that can’t hear our prayers only God can thats the point.. God does not want us to pray to anyone else but him but we can pray for others.. you are making a very big assumption that God gives Mary and others the power to hear all prayers to them.God is a jealous God all glory to him no other,as yourself who comes first in your life and who loved you first that is the one to pray to…..
