hmmmm I tried google but I can’t find anything about him – is he a 19th century saint?
anyways, of all of the catholic ethnic groups, i think the koreans are the coolest, at least from my experience visiting their parish by me (plus koreans make awesome horror movies)
Zan, there isn’t much out there, it took me quite awhile to find anything, but I know there must be information somewhere so I’m stubborn.
In the late 1700′s, some Koreans converted in China and wanted to bring Catholicism home, in an environment that was unfriendly to new religions. College General was their seminary school and St. James Honore Chastan was one of the teachers there and became one of the 103 martyrs, now saints.
Chastan, Jacques-Honoré (The Fifth), martyred in Korea born to Marcoux (Basses-Alpes), 7 October 1803 …. Chastan was beheaded on 21 September 1839 …. On 6 May 1984 in Seoul, during his trip to Korea, Pope John Paul II meets in a canonization 103 Korean Saints.

1828 till 1830, he taught full-time in College General.
1831 till 1833 Apr., he taught part-time and assisted in Pulau Tikus parish. Fr Chastan was gifted in languages and was fluent in Chinese.
1833 he tried to enter Korea but failed. While waiting, he did missionary work in the Shantung province.
1836 he managed to enter Korea and was in Seoul learning the language.
1839 he surrendered to protect his flock from further persecution. He was tortured and beheaded together with Bishop Imbert and Fr Maubant.
