Obama Falling in the Polls: Catholics, Women, Young Voters, College Educated

The latest Zogby poll shows that Obama is falling rapidly in most categories, particularly among Catholics, the young adults and college grads, urban dwellers and southerners. It doesn’t look good for him right now. The surfacing of the infanticide issue at major news outlets yesterday (finally) will not help Obama among swing vote Catholics and the young, I would think. So, I am expecting that the numbers have already dropped from where they were when this study was released. Obama may be toast already.

This latest Reuters/Zogby poll is a dramatic reversal from the identical survey taken last month – in the July 9-13 Reuters/Zogby survey, Obama led McCain, 47% to 40%. In the four-way race last month, Obama held a 10-point lead over McCain.

The Reuters/Zogby Horserace

August July

McCain

46% 40%

Obama

41% 47%

Not sure/Other

13% 13%

This latest live operator telephone survey was conducted Aug. 14-16, 2008 from Zogby’s call center in Upstate New York. It included 1,089 likely voters nationwide, and carries a margin of error of +/- 3.0 percentage points.

The poll shows Obama losing voters to McCain in groups where Obama had bigger leads a month ago, such as Democrats, women and younger voters. Obama also lost ground among Catholics and Southerners.

This table shows Obama’s loss of support between the July and August Reuters/Zogby polls among some significant sub-groups (the margin of error is greater for sub-groups than the sample as a whole).

  1. Charles R. Williams Says:

The only reason Obama has held up as long as he has is that McCain is a mediocre candidate and the people are fed up with the Republicans. Obama has no record of accomplishment. He is a mild-mannered extreme leftist with deep roots in corrupt Chicago machine politics. He barely squeeked past Clinton, another candidate with huge negatives. Outside the McGovernite wing of the Democrat Party, Obama’s support has been a mile wide and an inch deep.

McCain’s failings and weaknesses are well known. This campaign has been one revelation after another about Obama’s past and his personality that steadily deflates his candidacy.

  2. Maddog Says:

How any Catholic can vote for someone who supports abprtion is beyond reason. Obama thinks he can straddle the issue, pretending to lament abortion but not willing to put a stop to it. How two-faced can anyone get?!

  3. Fr. J. Says:

Maddog, maybe you should stop by Vox Nova and tell them what you think.

    Fr. J,

Send a lamb to the lions, shame on you!

    LOL

  5. Fr. J. Says:

Hey Tito, great to see you.

    Yeah, shame on me ;)

How about you? You feeling like a lamb or a lion tonight? VN needs fresh meat.

  6. David Gerard Says:

But it’s sooo close! Ask the media!

  7. Maddog Says:

Just left my mark on Vox Nova. Thanks for the tip!

  8. Howard Says:

    OBAMA = BETRAYAL
Obama supporters are foolish to think that he will never betray them.
Obama was a close friend of Pastor Wright for TWENTY YEARS.
Obama threw Wright under the bus for personal ambition.
McCain would not betray his country even after 5 years of torture.
You can put lipstick on a traitor, but he’s still a traitor.

  9. Ha. Says:

    douchebag.

  10. Steve Says:

Yup, definitely failing in the polls. LOL

  11. Nan Says:

After the racist inaugural prayer? I thought Obama was supposed to stand for change and to unite the country. I don’t think starting off with obvious racist slurs is a good start. While Obama didn’t actually make the slurs himself, he has not spoken out against them.

    1,461 days up to 2,922 days…

    Not that long.

    Can we stand it?

    YES WE CAN!

    Should Providence allow.
