One thing I find fascinating (in a sad kind of way) about the impulse to blur the eyes and the mind and lump almost everyone under the rubric of ‘Abrahamic’ religion is that it is a far far more conservative impulse (bordering on reactionary!) compared with that which the same people typically reject (i.e., orthodox Christianity).
In other words, people choose to go back to a standard that’s 5,000 years old (more or less) because they think the 2,000-year-old standard is too out-of-date! They choose to reject the newer of the two on the very same grounds that they embrace the older (i.e., that it is somehow more ‘fundamental’).
Such powerful propaganda for children. Could any mind resist it?
I still remember some of the more blatant propaganda they were playing on tv in Iran after the revolution…. revolting…

Thank you for posting this… I lived in Israel many years and no one in the States believes me when I tell them this stuff. Palestinian elementary schools have hallways and classrooms emblazoned with slogans like, “Today’s students… tomorrow’s jihad martyrs!” etc. and parents routinely dress their children up as suicide bombers for costume parades and holidays. Who is so sick as to warp their own children that way? I will never understand it. Never.
