The Daily Maronite: American group in Lebanon

American group in Lebanon

During Mass, I was surprised to see 30 American students present in the church. I felt I was in Michigan. Most of them were Non-Catholics. I gave my homily in Lebanese, then I switched to English. Later after Mass, people told the mass was heard in the town (big speakers). I didn’t notice that.

The gospel was about the final judgement when we will hear the words of Jesus: “Come, beloved of my Father, for I was hungry and you gave me food. I was thirsty and you gave me to drink. I was naked and you clothed me. I was a stranger and you welcomed me. I was ill and in prison and you visited me.” After Mass, we took pictures. They like our Maronite Liturgy, the stones of the church, and the town… of course Lebanon in general.
It is funny one of them asked me what denomination do i belong to. I said “Maronite”. He laughed saying “I am Mennonite.” Before communion I told them if they were Catholics and ready to receive communion to come forward and receive the Body of Christ and if they were non-Catholics or not ready to come forward for a blessing crossing their hands. Most of them crossed their hands. Later I understood they were protestants.

I hope my friends to see you here. it is a beautiful place. I miss you.
