Maria Domenica Mazzarello (Mornese, May 9, 1837 - Nizza Monferrato, May 14 1881) was a religious Italian, founder of the Congregation of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. In 1951 Pope Pius XII canonized her.
Daughter greater than sharecroppers, participated young family to work. Registered Association of Daughters of Mary Immaculate, we taught the catechism. At 23 years, she was hit by a severe form of typhoid that changed not only physically. She decided to learn the job of seamstress and open with a friend, Petronilla, a tailoring workshop for the education of girls.

In 1864, she met John Bosco, visiting Mornese, who remained pleasantly struck by the girl. It was the same Don Bosco, who in 1872, chose her as initiator of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians in the same year and took the vows, along with her companions.
In 1879 the parent company of was transferred in Nizza Monferrato here and there died in 1881 at the age of 44 years.
At her death, the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians already counted 165 nuns and 65 novices scattered in 28 houses (19 in Italy, 3 in France and 6 in America).
She was canonized and her liturgical feast is celebrated on May 13.
