The latest “crisis” to hit the Philippines is the much talked-about rice “shortage”, and as expected, the advocates of the Culture of Death are once again blaming “overpopulation” as the culprit. Not only is this factually wrong, but it is also a despicable attempt to turn attention away from the real cause of the crisis: massive corruption and irresponsible, long-standing mismanagement of the economy.
Politics of Distraction
Research shows that the GMA administration is perceived to be one of the most corrupt in Philippine history. The Philippines scores way low, at 131 out of 180 nations, in Transparency International’s 2007 Corruption Perceptions Index. A recent national survey found many Filipinos think that Gloria Arroyo is the country’s most corrupt leader, more so than former President-dictator Ferdinand Marcos, as reported in the December 12, 2007, Sun Star story “Survey says Arroyo most corrupt president“:
The nationwide survey by independent pollster Pulse Asia found that 42 percent of Filipinos believed Arroyo is the country’s most corrupt leader, compared to 35 percent for Marcos.
Lest anyone miss the point, massive corruption has serious effects on the economy and the delivery of government services. Funds that should be going into education, salaries and housing for our soldiers and civil servants, infrastructure, health, agricultural support, and social services ends up in the pockets of those who don’t deserve it. Is it any wonder then that we lack classrooms and texbooks, have underpaid soldiers and policemen, inadequate primary health care, and poor, underproductive farmers?
Another problem — which, to be fair, was allowed by previous administrations — was the insistence on debt servicing, including even the repayment of questionable loans. This has effectively emaciated government’s ability to make critical capital investments in the nation’s industries and infrastructure.

I think those who think there are too many people should do us all a favor and kill themselves. It’s really the most logical thing for them to do. 8)

The concensus among ZPG/overpopulationists usually seems to be the same, and that is to say it is the same as PJ O’Rourke masterfully summed it up in his book All the Trouble in the World: The Lighter Side of Overpopulation, Famine, Ecological Disaster, Ethnic Hatred, Plague, and Poverty that is to say: “Just enough of me, way too much of you!”
“Stem that brown tide” is another truism that seems to be the mantra of people who think the world is overpopulated. Babies most usually represent - in institutional eyes - beasts of burden when they come in shades of black, yellow and brown. (cf. Bangledesh overpopulation concerns). Pink babies (a la the variety Overpopulationists ovewhelmingly repopulate with) never seem to be so bad. No one is talking about the overpopulation of Burbank, CA.
See at cocktail parties it would be base and rude of these folks to say “There are too many niggers, we need to get their tubes tied”. People will spit out their martinis and you will be asked to leave in no uncertain terms…
But if they say “I am concearned about overpopulation and sustainability in the developping world where reproductive rights are curtaieled” you will be offered a Martini, lauded as wise, and people will presume that you must have worked for the Peace Corps in the two years between getting a degree is something that included the word “Studies” and a masters in something that included the word “Social”. It is the qualitative difference with distinction - one is classier than the other. Rather like the difference between pulling you junk out at a party and saying “want some?” versus witty innuendo and banter the kind of which writers on shows like “Sex and the City” might want to copy down.
You can be a racist. You just have to be PC and act “sensitive, compassionate, and concerned”.

SS,
I knew a guy who went to parties and did pull out his junk and ask “You want some?”
He always went home with some female. Although he was slapped quite frequently.
He also is now paralyzed from the waist down. Poetic justice?
I remarked to my wife on the way home from Chicago that the Baby Boomers who brought “reproductive rights” and “choice” to their children will face “death with dignity” and “euthanasia” from their children. Poetic justice?
It is easy to use big words and appear learned and brilliant. There are many of us who can see through that ruse.
